CHENGDU, China, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- China won its fifth consecutive womens teams title after sweeping Japan 3-0 at the World Team Table Tennis Championships here on Saturday.

It was also a record-extending 22nd time for China to have lifted the Corbillon Cup in history.

In the two sides fourth straight head-to-head in the final dating back to 2014, China enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory, as Olympic champion Chen Meng put the hosts ahead with an 11-6, 11-8, 11-8 win over Miyuu Kihara.

兵乒不叫PingPong?

‘PingPong’和‘Table Tennis’

许多人都知道乒乓球有一个简单好记的英文名字‘pingpong’，不过在国际上，或者课本里，我们学到的都是叫做‘table tennis’（桌上网球），就算是国际乒联在命名时，用的也是‘Table Tennis’而不是‘PingPong’。具体的原因就在于‘PingPong’其实是一个已经被注册了的商标。没想到吧！乒乓球的发源可以追溯到19世纪后期的英国，当时人们喜欢打网球，于是顺势发明了一个可以在室内打的“网球”，也就是乒乓球。最开始这个运动名为‘parlour table game’，就是“室内桌上游戏”。后来在英国成立乒乓球协会的时候，他们选择了用‘pingpong’来注册，后来发现这个已经被一家名为“伦敦雅克”的公司找上门，后来便有了‘table tennis’协会。这就是现在国际乒联‘International Table Tennis Federation’的前身。而乒乓球‘Table Tennis’也沿用至今。中国乒乓球为何如此牛掰?

The Chinese table tennis team work extremely hard. They put in a huge amount of quantity and quality practice. This usually takes the form of seven hour days,six days a week. Training incorporates regular practice with a partner,multiball training, service practice and physical training.

Chinese children are tested for sports skills at a very young age. If they appear particularly talented they are moved to specialist sports schools. From as young as twelve, Chinese players can become full-time sports people.

The exciting sport I watch is basketball game. I started getting interested in basketball about three years ago because all of my classmates were total NBA fans, and they kept on talking about the games they watched on TV. In addition, they also got together after class to shoot some hoops. Although I did not know much about basketball, I quickly learned the rules, and now I really enjoy playing with my classmates. Because I am pretty tall, this game is good for me, and I have improved very quickly.

I think playing this sport is very healthy because it can keep me fit. It is a good work- out for both legs and arms. It involves a lot of running and jumping around, but you also need to be precise in order to score. Another reason is that playing basketball is a team sport, so you need to collaborate if you want to win. Everyone must attack and defend together if you hope to win.
